This is a typical example of a Mandarin (perching duck) nest box. They prefer their nest boxes to be raised from the ground. Pot plant containers are used as boxes with the drip-tray placed on top as a lid. An entrance, about 10cm wide, is cut out with a jig-saw and palm branches used for shade.

The nesting area for the Giant Canadian Geese is made by constructing an A-frame and covering it with palm branches for shade. Nesting material such as dried grass cuttings is placed inside to encourage nest building.

The Swans build their own nest as long as material, such as dried plant matter and grass, is provided. Palm branches are used to provide shade.
